For the last 8 years, we’ve been raising money for breast cancer research and several families who have been affected by this disease. With the generosity of friends, family and local businesses around our area, we’ve raised over $30,000 since the inception of “Pink Days” in 2012. This annual event began as part of the Invincibelle Spirit Campaign for a Cure, a nation-wide fundraiser, but has grown into so much more for us at GreenScapes. We’ve met so many amazing, brave and strong people through this event, and they’ve all become life-long friends. But this year is different… it is hitting as close to home as it can.
This past November, I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. To say those words aren’t absolutely terrifying would be a lie. I’ve been lucky enough to not only catch it early, but have started effective treatments already, and things are going well. I’m thankful for supportive family and friends, amazing nurses and doctors, and an early diagnosis. Knowing so many people who have gone through similar things has brought me comfort and support and just proves that what we do every year is important. Our little fundraiser may not have a massive impact on breast cancer research, but it definitely has an impact on the people involved – every little bit really does count.
With all of that said, I’m not going anywhere. You’ll see me working around the garden center, hosting planting parties, and just going about my normal day-to-day activities. Which includes writing to you about our upcoming 9th Annual Pink Days at GreenScapes!
VIPink Night kicks off the weekend on Friday September 25th at 5pm. The amazingly talented, Whitesboro native, Tim Britt will be back with his mix of tunes influenced by the Dave Matthews Band, Simon and Garfunkel, Marc Broussard, Mumford and Sons and James Taylor. Throughout the night, sample local wines and brews, along with delicious foods from Boulevard Diner. In an effort to maximize the potential of this wonderful cause, Pink Days will extend into the weekend with chances at raffle prizes and PINK specials throughout the Garden Center. (*more details coming soon!)
With our goal of making the most impact that we can in the name of such a worthy cause, we are looking to generous companies and individuals for donations to the raffles. The last 8 year’s raffles were a great success with some creative baskets with the generous help of potential donors like you. Past donors such as Carmella’s Cafe, Geraty Pools & Spas, The Olde Wicker Mill, Bagel Grove, and the Utica Zoo have made such an impact with their tremendous donations in previous years, and we would greatly value your consideration of contributions, either as a new or returning partner. How can you help? If participation in this worthwhile cause is something you are compelled to assist with, you can sign up today to be a sponsor, for which we would be most appreciative. Participation includes features on our website, press releases, and other social media outlets, which have garnered increased exposure with the success of our event over the last several years. Most important to consider in relation to this request is the impact you will have on individuals who may be affected by the biggest fight of their lives to date.
We at GreenScapes greatly appreciate your support; whatever form it comes in. The success of this event will be attributed to the participants and the generous people and businesses in our community. Your time and donations will help raise funds help bring awareness and research funds to the individuals who run the risk of developing breast cancer at some point in their life or are currently fighting this disease.
